Original fine art paintings of coral reef fishes in water colour. Paintings and illustration by commission are welcomed.
Ivy Cheong, Malaysian artist drawn to the sea...
In 2007, Ivy made her first scuba diving trip and that introduction resulted in a fascination with the ocean. Amazed by the rich diversity of the sea, Ivy used each trip to study and admire species of fish of various sizes, colour and texture. Indeed, getting close and being able to appreciate their beautiful detailed forms has become the focus of Ivy's journey; not just below the waves, but into the world of art.
Reef fish have become Ivy's current focus: the quest to capture the minute detail that fuels her fascination with the inhabitants of the reef. Interested in sharing the sea's amazing beauty through her art, Ivy continues to return to the water for inspiration.
Creating pieces that are as much a visual record, they are accurate portraits of some of the most colourful and beautiful life forms in marine nature. Ivy hopes to build a body of work that is as timeless as the fish themselves. While her paintings and illustrations are frequently done in series – representing various species of fish that populate a particular underwater geography – Ivy also makes time to accept commissions for individual pieces.
"Nothing pleases me more than to be able to personalise a painting of an object so much valued by someone. To see a painting come to life with every brush stroke is an exhilarating and rewarding experience."
Ivy travels frequently in South East Asia and from mid 2011, she and her husband will be welcoming a new family member to their home in France. Whenever time permits, they will dive; wherever there are oceans, is where beauty swims and peeks out from the reefs. "Painting is just the part of the dive that's on land."

"Fish art always puts a smile on my face no matter how challenging I find it. I've also discovered that painting creatures of nature makes me happy, and is especially useful in helping me to appreciate textures and patterns more…which is essential for a good piece of fine art.
I'm excited to produce more butterfly and furry animal paintings next. And I'll be looking at painting a series of wild African animals inspired by my travels in South Africa."

To commission a painting, please email your requirements (size & timeframe) with a photo. I will be happy to discuss without obligations.
